Dominican Republic Updates Regular trips to the DR (Dominican Republic) are planned-- usually on a quarterly basis. Teams of 6-12 go with the primary mission of delivering needed medications to the Ebenezer Clinic. Secondarily, we minister within the churches and in the community, and have discovered in our journeys the massive needs of the many homeless children in the Santo Domingo area. In partnership with the DR government, local DR churches and ministries, and volunteers, Open Arms Outreach is caring for homeless children and ministering to at-risk families. The 2009 Short-term missions trips to The Dominican Republic: 1. January 30th – February 9th 2009
2. April 24th – May 4th, 2009 (Coincides with school vacation in Laconia, NH)
3. July 24th- August 3rd, 2009* 4. October 30th- November 9th, 2009* *Depending on the gift mix of those interested, the same as above with more or less emphasis on one activity over another. Children's Home ProjectOpen Arms Outreach is involved with preparations for building a new children's home that will eventually house up to 65 orphaned children and a day care facility for moms and children at risk in Pantoja, Santo Domingo. August 2008 - Update from the Ministry TripAugust's team consisted of six members, three of whom had not visited the DR. Opportunities to bless and be blessed were countless during the 10 day trip. More medications were brought to the Ebenezer Clinic, and a free clinic day to distribute vitamins and medical care to families was a big event. The children loved the gifts of Beanie Babies and lollipops. Pastor Ken told the story of God's love for the world using colors as told by Charles Spurgeon. Leather bracelets with colored beads were given to the children to remind them of the story. A chance to minister to the youth leadership from two churches brought about much needed prayer and words of encouragement to these dynamic young Dominicans. God's hand is upon the young people of the DR. It is estimated that 40 percent of the population there is under age 15! Witnessing the bold and vibrant youth as they speak and sing without trepidation from the podium at their church was an awe inspiring treat. A visit to Pastor Paulino's orphan home revealed a new boy had joined the group. However, three of the boys are back at home with their own family members. Pastor Ken was able to obtain much needed sleeping cots for the children. They were made in just one day by a factory in Santo Domingo. A concert in the park complete with music and dance brought entertainment and the message of salvation to the residents of Pantoja. A local church youth group provided their gifts of ministry and many gave their hearts to Jesus that night.
April 2008 - Update from the Ministry TripThis April, a team of ten volunteers delivered approximately $97,000.00 in medications to the Ebenezer Clinic that were distributed free and assisted with the care of eight orphaned boys. The boys are being cared for by a Christian family in a home rented by Open Arms Outreach.
