Volunteer Opportunities
Mentoring – This role requires maturity at any age, a willingness to be trained and follow through with an assignment. There should be levels of proficiency in the areas you would consider mentoring i.e. budgeting, parenting, housekeeping, nutrition, anger management, problem solving, group meetings, big brother, big sister, hiking, fishing etc. etc. Your volunteer time will be according to your schedule, as little as two hours a month, or as much as you would feel comfortable.
Driving- Drivers must have a current license and a good driving record. In addition the driver must have liability insurance, when not using our own van. Drivers of our van must be 25 years or older. Your available time will be posted and you will be on call during those times only. Daytime drivers are needed for appointments. Complete orientation will be given volunteer drivers. Mileage reimbursement will be paid to those volunteers who need it.
Moving– Movers are volunteers who post an on call schedule with us, and are willing to help move families into our apartments, helping to gather furniture from storage, thrift stores or donated sources. Movers must be able to handle stairs and appliances, and be skillful in transporting loads while being gracious to the family we are serving.
Office/ Kitchen– These volunteers will help with specific tasks according to their proficiency: Answering the phone, greeting drop-ins, preparing coffee and food, filing, assisting with administrative tasks, mailers, errands, cleaning, visiting families etc.
Professional– These volunteers would offer their specific skills on their available time. Some of these would include carpenters, electricians, plumbers, landscapers, decorators, painters, handymen, carpet cleaners, computer tech’s, glazers, automobile mechanics, students interning/practicum, tutors, nurses, educational , lawyers, etc. Legal waivers and liability insurance and licensing may be required.
